Family, Community Gathers for Sherdavia Jenkins Memorial

Family members of a young girl who was gunned down in Liberty City eight years ago will be joining community members at a ceremony for slain children Tuesday at the park that bears her name.

The Children to be Remembered ceremony will take place at Sherdavia Jenkins Peace Park at Northwest 62nd Street and Northwest 12th Avenue at 2 p.m.

The memorial will feature guest speakers, a moment of silence and the reading of the names of children killed in Miami-Dade.

The park is named for Jenkins, who was just 9 years old when she was shot and killed during a shootout in the Pork 'N Beans projects in July 2006. Damon Darling was later convicted and sentenced to 50 years in prison in the shooting.
