Family Seeks Answers in Fatal Hit and Run in Miami

A family is seeking answers after a man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Miami.

Rey Garcia, 25, died on Northwest 59th Street and 3rd Avenue the night of September 20. He was riding his motorcycle when a white car T-boned him.

Garcia's family members came together Tuesday to ask for help in finding the driver.

"It's not fair how they just hit him and left him there like he wasn't anything," girlfriend Lydia Espino said.

A memorial overflowing with flowers crowds the corner where Garcia died. His mother and other family members are struggling to find the person behind the wheel of the 4-door white car that struck Garcia.

"He was a really good person, he would always be home," Espino said.

Garcia dedicated his life to motorsports and fixing bikes for a living. The family says they found parts of the car that hit him but they're having a hard time getting through to detectives working the case.

"And then you call them and call them and they don't answer, they don't," Espino said.

The family doesn't have the $14,000 they say it would cost to bury Garcia, so he'll be cremated instead. But for now the family's focus is finding out who killed him.

"I just want justice," Espino said.

Police said they're looking for the vehicle and suspect, and they're asking anyone with information to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
