Family's Pet Cat Shot With BB Gun: Broward Sheriff

Authorities searching for whoever shot cat in unincorporated Broward

Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are asking for the public's help in finding whoever shot a family's pet cat with a BB gun last month.

The incident happened on or about May 27 near Sunview Park in unincorporated Broward, BSO officials said.

The owner told detectives the cat, named Wilson, had been acting strangely so she took him to a veterinarian on May 30. He had been lethargic, refused to eat, and seemed to have trouble breathing.

"He had blood coming out of his nose, his mouth. Just didn’t wanna be touched, which is unusual for him," said owner Telma Rodriguez. "He was hacking, so we didn’t know what was going on."

When the vet examined Wilson, it was discovered he had been shot with a BB gun, and the BB was lodged near his spine.

"I wanted to cry. I didn’t know what to do," Rodriguez said. "I was just like, who could do this to an innocent animal?"

She said Wilson is back home recovering from his wounds after getting surgery to get the pellet out.

"My biggest concern is, if you're doing this to an innocent animal, I can’t imagine what else you’ll be doing," Rodriguez said.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
