Father And Son Victims of Armed Carjacking in Miami Beach

A father and son were robbed and carjacked at gunpoint outside a Miami Beach club early Thursday, police said.

Luis Mercado, 57, and his son, 24-year-old Ramon, were leaving Studio 23 when they were approached by two armed men in the 300 block of 23rd Street just after 2:15 a.m., the Miami Beach Police report said.

The two suspects made them stand against a wall and empty their pockets. They grabbed the pair's cell phones and a gold chain, then fled the scene in their 2015 Ford Escape, the report said. Neither man was injured and Luis Mercado actually said he wanted to thank the suspects for letting he and his son live.

"If they out there looking at this, I appreciate letting us go bud. You know, I’m not hating," he told NBC 6.

Luis Mercado said his son wasn't as ready to cooperate during the carjacking.

"He wasn't complying, he's 24 and plays sports and stuff," Luis Mercado said. "We’re still here so that’s all that matters. I'm looking at the bottom line. I couldn’t get another son."

Police are looking for the car, with the Florida license plate YN18S. They're also looking for the two armed suspects, plus a third suspect who was driving a tan Lincoln that the other two suspects were seen getting out of, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
