Father, Grandmother Arrested in Attempted Drowning of Miramar Baby

The father and grandmother of a 3-month-old Miramar boy who was nearly drowned by his mother back in July are facing charges.

Conlan Armour, 31, and Grace Ann Brooks, 56, were arrested last week on charges of child neglect and failure to report child abuse, Broward Sheriff's Office records showed.

Armour was arrested Oct. 22 and Brooks was arrested next day. Both were released on $4,500 bond and it's unknown if they have attorneys.

Mother Inasheka Armour was arrested and charged with attempted murder in July after police said her young son was found unresponsive next to a canal in the Riviera Isles community.

The boy was found by a passerby who called 911 and began performing CPR. Police said Armour admitted to the passerby that she wanted to kill her child.

Miramar Police said the incident appeared to be a near-drowning. Police said Armour pulled the baby out of the water when he started turning blue and laid him on the grass and that's when a nurse drove by.

The baby was first taken to Memorial Hospital in Miramar and was later transported to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

According to police, family members said Armour had been struggling with post-partum depression. Conlan Armour told officers the family did their best to make sure Armour was always with someone else when she was in the presence of the child, police said.

Conlan Armour told officers it was the second time his wife had tried to hurt the child. Police said Inasheka told them in an interview after her arrest she also tried to smother the baby with a pillow after intentionally giving him adult cough syrup.
