Father of Hit & Run Victims Not Giving Up Hope

The father of two brothers who were critically injured in a hit and run accident in Dania Beach on Monday said the family is deflated, but is not giving up hope.

Apollo Brown, Sr. talked to the media Thursday outside of the hospital that has become his home since his sons Apollo Brown, Jr., 8, and Kelv’ron Florence, 14, were the victims of a hit and run crash in Dania Beach. He said his older son is showing signs of improvement and is now on a smaller ventilator.

“I’ve never given up,” Brown, Sr. said Thursday. “I’ve always felt like both will overcome this tragedy.”

The brothers were walking home from a basketball game on Bryan Road Monday night when they were hit. Both boys remain in critical condition and the driver remains on the loose. A family member told NBC 6 that Apollo Brown, Jr. is brain dead after the accident.

“They (the driver) left me in a lot of pain and I hold a lot of anger,” said Brown, Sr. “But I’m humble. My kids are the most important thing to me. I wish they’d turn themselves in or anything to give us some closure.”

Apollo, Sr. said he is trying to be strong for his family, but he’s devastated after the crash.

“My feelings, I’m destroyed on the inside, but I have to stay strong because my wife is taking it harder than I am and I’m just staying strong for them,” Apollo Brown, Sr. said.

Broward Sheriff’s Office investigators said they’ve received numerous tips from the public, but still need more to make an arrest for the accident. Detectives are looking for the driver of a newer model, metallic silver Toyota Tacoma. The truck is believed to have damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle and is also missing headlight and fog light covers along with the grill emblem.

Steve Tidwell, who has been working in the car body repair business for 27 years, said he and others are on the lookout for the car.

“When a human body hits, it’s more of a blunt, it won’t rip the metal or bumpers, it’s more like caved in,” Tidwell said. “Best thing to do is keep an eye out for a damaged vehicle, bumper damage, vehicle, grill damage, possibly hood and windshield.”

Anyone with any information about the vehicle or the driver is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
