An early morning home invasion in Pinecrest left an alleged intruder dead Monday after the home owner - a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officer - opened fire, officials said.

Miami-Dade Police say the shooting took place shortly before 2 a.m. in the home near Southwest 72 Avenue and 92nd Street.

Investigators confirmed that the home owner is a Customs and Border Patrol agent, saying she opened fire after hearing a bedroom sliding glass door break and finding a person inside.

The agent has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. Officials say the agent and others inside the home were not hurt.

Officials haven't released the identity of the alleged intruder.
