Federal Contractor Pleads Guilty to Faking Tax Returns

A federal contractor has pleaded guilty to faking his corporate and personal income tax returns for three years.

Officials tell the Sun Sentinel that 44-year-old Maxim Silinsky admitted Tuesday he faked tax returns from 2007 to 2010 by overstating the expenses of his Fort Lauderdale aircraft leasing and parts supply company.

Silinsky's company leases Russian aircraft to the U.S. Air Force for training and to supplies parts to U.S. military forces deployed in Afghanistan.

Officials say he transferred approximately $1.7 million from his company to other bank accounts he controlled to hide money from the IRS.

Silinsky faces a maximum of three years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and restitution payments. His sentencing is scheduled for February.
