Frantzy Etienne, a man Hallandale Beach Police spent days trying to track down, ended the search on his own Tuesday.

"He surrendered himself to police," Capt. Sonia Quinones said.

Quinones said an arrest warrant had been issued for Etienne, 29, whom authorities said broke into a home on the 300 block of NW 5th Avenue at about 3:00 a.m. Sunday.

"He was carrying a 6-foot-tall wooden stick, which he threatened the people inside the home with. They felt threatened for their safety," Quinones said.

One of Etienne's three victims had a gun, and after a tussle, gunfire erupted. The bullets struck 27-year-old Macarthur Smith, who died from a shot to his chest, and 29-year-old Maria Smith, who was treated for a wound to her forearm, police said.

After those shots were fired, Etienne somehow got away. By Monday, an arrest warrant was issued, and the manhunt was heating up. With his attorney at his side, Etienne chose to come face to face with his charges of felony murder and armed burglary Tuesday afternoon.
