Firefighters Rescue 4 From Burning Home in NW Miami-Dade

Firefighters had to remove window security bars to rescue a group of people after a northwest Miami-Dade home caught fire Tuesday morning.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the home in the area of Northwest 126th Street and Northwest 13th Avenue around 8 a.m. and found smoke pouring out of the front.

Seven people were in the home but only three had been able to get out on their own. The other four were in a bedroom but were unable to get out because of the security bars, officials said.

Fire crews worked to remove the bars and were able to get the four people out safely. One of the people was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for possible smoke inhalation while the others were evaluated and treated at the scene.

The fire was extinguished and the cause is being investigated.

"Security bars may help keep your family safe from intruders, but they can also trap you in a deadly fire. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reminds individuals to use quick release devices on barred windows and doors to allow them to be opened immediately in an emergency," the department said in a statement.
