Firefighters rescued an hour-old kitten from a pipe anchored in concrete after children playing nearby heard the meowing, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

Members of a fire rescue station used a saw to cut the 12-foot pipe and retrieve the kitten Saturday afternoon near SW 31st Avenue and 37 Terrace.

The firefighters said they took the kitten back to the station to clean and feed it, and later brought the animal to the Humane Society of Broward County for care.
