Firefighters fought a blaze that flew through the roof of an abandoned building in Sunrise Friday, sending massive plumes of smoke into the air.
Units from both Sunrise and Lauderhill respond to the fire at an abandoned building that was once a daycare in the area of NW 44th Street and Spring Tree Drive in Sunrise. The fire is now out.
At one point, all firefighters were forced to evacuate "the structure and going into defensive mode" because the flames are going through the roof, according to a tweet by the Lauderhill Fire PIO. The building had been abandoned since 2000.
