Firefighters Throw Baby Shower for Rescued Pregnant Woman

Strangers came together to help a Lauderhill pregnant woman, who lost everything in an apartment fire, start a new chapter.

Lauderhill firefighters threw a baby shower for the 30-year-old mother to be one week after she was saved from her burning apartment. On the day of the fire, she was expected to give birth in three weeks and had nowhere to go with her dad, cousin and niece.

Firefighters started a GoFund Me page for the pregnant woman after learning she lost all of her gifts from a baby shower held days before the fire.

Within days, firefighters collected more than $5,000 in donations.

They put together a baby shower where they surprised the woman and her dad with the keys to a new apartment, furniture, baby items and hundreds of dollars in gift cards.

The mom-to-be, who's expecting a girl, appeared speechless by the fire department's generous gesture.

"I see hope. It's a little bit better than before. A lot better," Nicola Taylor said.

She said since the day of the blaze, firefighters have called her every day to check on the family's well being.

"We get a visit almost every day, regardless of how busy they were," said Taylor.

The firefighters collected donations from police departments, commissioners and several non-profit organizations.

"I didn't know firefighters did stuff like this. This is new to me. It's more than what I expected," said Glenton Daley, the father of pregnant woman.

The fire department said it was able to get the family a new apartment using the money collected on GoFund Me.

"The firefighters were there for us, day by day, night by night," said Daley.
