Flagami Homeowner Takes Down Suspected Car Burglar

A Flagami man was hailed a hero in his neighborhood for catching a suspected car thief early Tuesday morning.

Regis Padron walked out of his house along Northwest 62nd Court and Northwest 3rd street at 5 in the morning to head to work, when he noticed someone rummaging through his car.

"I found somebody stealing from the car, he took off and I was able to catch him," Padron said. He described the suspect as a young man, who according to police had three knives in his backpack.

"I'm really scared, really nervous just to wake up and see the block with police and the yellow lines. We're thankful the neighbor was alert and able to catch the bad guy," said Gloria Cueto, who awoke to the police activity on her street.

City of Miami police took the suspect into custody. Padron said he doesn't consider himself a hero, just someone who was trying to defend his property.

Detectives believe the suspect may be responsible for several other car break-ins in the area.
