Florida Driver's Licenses, ID Cards Get Fresh, Secure Design in August

It's out with the old and in with the new for Florida driver’s licenses and ID cards, which will soon have a fresh look beginning in August, according to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

The new cards are designed to increase protection from fraud as compared to the previous look, according to the FLHSMV.

Portrait images will now be placed over a pastel-colored linear rendering of Florida’s state seal, topped off with "FL" in bold orange letters. The back of the card will display an image of the state among ocean waves with the year 1845, paying homage to when the Sunshine State joined the Union.

Portrait images will appear in with a transparent background in four locations on the card.

The new card will be offered at select service centers as the new design rolls out, and will be available at all locations and online by the end of the year.

Previous driver’s licenses and ID cards will still be in use alongside the new designs until they are replaced and phased out.
