Florida Unemployment Rate Drops to 6 Percent

The rate is the lowest it has been since June 2008.

Florida's unemployment rate is dropping again.

The state's unemployment rate fell to 6 percent for October. That's a small dip of 0.1 percent from the previous month.

The rate is the lowest it has been since June 2008.

Gov. Rick Scott announced new jobs numbers during a Friday visit to Boca Raton.

Florida added more than 34,000 jobs last month, which was the third highest total in the nation. Florida's unemployment rate, however, remains above the national average of 5.8 percent. There are an estimated 578,000 Floridians out of work.

The Republican governor made the state's job growth a centerpiece of his re-election campaign.

Economists have countered that a big reason for the initial drop in the state's unemployment rate was that many Floridians dropped out of the workforce.
