Florida Man Sentenced to Prison for Turtle Egg Poaching

A South Florida man has been sentenced to two years in prison for poaching more than 300 sea turtle eggs.
 
Kenneth Cornelius Coleman of Riviera Beach pleaded guilty in March to one count of unlawfully transporting endangered sea turtle eggs. He faced up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he was sentenced Thursday.
 
U.S. District Judge William Zloch ordered for the two-year sentence to run consecutively to a yearlong prison sentence Coleman received for violating his supervised release after a 2010 guilty plea for poaching.
 
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Coleman took 316 sea turtle eggs from nests in Juno Beach over two days last July. Authorities matched DNA from a canvas bag containing more than 200 eggs to DNA previously obtained from Coleman.
