Florida Pet Shelter Showcases Dogs With Harry Potter-Inspired ‘Pawgwarts' Program

If you want a fantastic beast but need help finding one, a Harry Potter-inspired pet adoption program may be just what you're seeking.

To encourage people to adopt based on personality instead of perceived breed, the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando created the Pawgwarts initiative.

According to Executive Director Stephen Bardy, the shelter removed all of their kennel card labels in 2017 and they placed all dogs into four distinct "doghouses."

"It's been embraced by the community, by adopters, and we've had more than 110,000 people take the house assignment quiz on our website. People really seem to want to know what house their dog is in," said Bardy.

The Pet Alliance team created a series of activities to allow a dog to be assigned by personality. For example, a dog who takes to learning obedience cues quickly has the knowledge of a Ravenpaw. A small dog who has the determination to climb the agility A-Frame possesses the ambition of Slobberin house. A dog that embraces new things has the bravery of a Gryffindog. Finally, Hufflefluff is reserved for only the most affectionate happy-to-know-you dogs because of their friendliness.

"A large number of dogs do get assigned to Hufflefluff, but typically most Gryffindog's get adopted, then Hufflefluff, Slobberin, and Ravenpaw in that order," said Bardy.

You don't need a Sorting Hat to know what house your dog belongs to. If you'd like to know what house your furry friend belongs to, take the Pawgwarts Quiz by clicking here.
