Florida Sens. Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson met with the Venezuelan community at Arepazo 2 in Doral on Thursday to discuss the future of the violence in Venezuela.
Rubio and Nelson held the event to rally support in the House and Senate for sanctions.
Rubio announced that the Senate leadership and foreign relations committee agreed to hold substantial and significant hearings solely on the issue of Venezuela.
Both senators say their strategy is to educate lawmakers on the situation in Venezuela.
"A country that is sliding further and further into the abyss," said Nelson.
"I think that if we can create a strong bipartisan consensus in the senate in favor of sanctions and take up this cause, I think the White House will follow," Rubio said.
