Florida Veterans Ceremony Site of Small Confederate Protest

A ceremony to induct five men into Florida's Veterans Hall of Fame found itself briefly caught up in small protest over a recent decision not to include three others who fought for the Confederacy.

Sons of Confederate Veterans member David McCallister staged a one-man protest at the Tallahassee ceremony Monday night by waving a small Confederate flag in front of Gov. Rick Scott and 200 attendees.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that police officers escorted McCallister outside before allowing him to return.

Scott and the state Cabinet voted in March not to induct three men who fought for the South in the Civil War.

McCallister said that the decision to exclude the Confederates was a ``crime against history.''
