Florida Woman Sentenced to Prison for Toddler's Death

Michael Lee McMullen died Oct.19 after being wrapped in blankets as punishment.

One of three caregivers charged in the smothering death of a 3-year-old southwest Florida boy has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The News-Press reports that Donella Trainor pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter of a child.

Michael Lee McMullen died Oct.19 after being wrapped in blankets as punishment. Authorities said the blankets were tied at both ends so Michael could not escape.

Trainer was among three caregivers arrested after the boy's death in a Lee County home where he lived after the Department of Children and Families removed him from his mother's care.

A state review found no documentation of a background check on Trainor, who had been found guilty of child abuse in Michigan.

Michael's stepfather and grandmother also were charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child.
