Foodies Hunt for Favorite Flavors at Miami Spice Kickoff

Cinebistro Executive Chef Justin Sherrer served up pork tacos with fresh fillings

Fine dining, not fine art, stole the show at the Adrienne Arsht Center Thursday night.

Floor after floor were filled with foodies on the hunt for their favorite flavors. Culinary students Florance Eloi and Ivan Lopez took their refined palettes to several restaurant kiosks at the Miami Spice kickoff event, and they liked what they tasted.

"Classic Peruvian ceviches. I had one with coconut milk," said Eloi.

"Morton Steakhouse has a nice little braised burger, which is very tender," Lopez added.

The event also included music, and even a snow show. Cinebistro Executive Chef Justin Sherrer was down below serving up pork tacos with fresh fillings.

"Napa cabbage, red onion and three different kinds of sauces," Sherrer said.

"We have octopus carbazo and stuffed dates," said Chef Uily Booth, of the new Brickell-area restaurant, Brasilero.

Brasilero is one of 52 new restaurants now part of Miami Spice, bringing the grand total to 200. It is the largest number in its 12 years.

"It first started out as two weeks, and then it became a month, and then it became two months and now one of the restaurant owners is asking me if we can extend it into October," said Janel Carrillo, project manager with the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau which organizes Miami Spice.

From Aug. 1 to Sept. 30, you can enjoy a three-course, prix fixe lunch and dinner. Lunch prices range from $19 to $23, and dinners between $33 and $39.
