Former DCF Chief Heads to Washington

Florida's Ex-DCF Secretary has a new job in Obama's administration.

Former Florida Department of Children and Families Secretary George Sheldon has a new job in the Obama Administration.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Monday announced the 63-year-old Sheldon will serve in her department.

Sheldon will become principal deputy assistant secretary and acting assistant secretary for the Administration for Children and Families on June 17.

Until then he'll serve as senior adviser to the man he will succeed, David Hansell.

Former Gov. Charlie Crist, then a Republican, appointed Sheldon, a Democrat, to head Florida's Children & Families Department. He resigned after Republican Rick Scott was elected governor in November.

Sheldon also has served as a state legislator and held a top post in Florida's attorney general's office. He lost a race for education commissioner to Crist in 2000.
