Former Opa-locka City Manager Sentenced to Prison For Role in Bribery Investigation

David Chiverton, the former city manager of Opa-locka who found himself out of a job following a federal investigation into corruption charges, will spend over three years behind bars as a result.

Chiverton was sentenced to 38 months of federal prison for accepting bribes while in his position with the city. He had previously pled guilty in the case. Chiverton will also serve three years of supervised released and eight months of house arrest once he’s released from prison.

According to the investigation, Chiverton worked with other public officials in the city to illegally solicit, demand and accept thousands of dollars in cash payments from businesses and individuals in exchange for deals with the city.

Chiverton’s sentence could be lowered over the next 90 days if prosecutors go back to the judge and say he has continued to cooperate with their case.
