Former Rep. David Rivera Seeks to Retake US House Seat

Former U.S. Rep. David Rivera has filed papers to run for his old U.S. House seat amid an investigation into campaign finance violations from the 2012 race.
 
Rivera, a Republican, filed Friday in Tallahassee to run for the 26th congressional district seat he lost two years ago to Democrat Joe Garcia. Rivera, a former state legislator, served a single term in Congress.
 
Former Rivera associate Ana Alliegro is jailed awaiting trial on charges of violating campaign finance laws. The case involves tens of thousands of dollars she's accused of funneling to an unknown primary challenger to Garcia. Alliegro has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial.
 
The candidate, Justin Lamar Sternad, pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations and is cooperating with prosecutors.
 
Rivera has repeatedly denied wrongdoing.
