Former Riviera Beach Police Officer Charged After Alleged Sexual Encounter With Teen

What to Know

  • A second officer from the department, Verley Moyton, was also fired after he admitted to having a one-time sexual encounter.

A former officer in Palm Beach County found himself behind bars after an investigation into allegations he had a sexual relationship with a teenager.

NBC affiliate WPTV-TV reports that 28-year-old Marc Joseph turned himself in on Thursday night and was given a $10,000 bond during a Friday hearing. He faces charges of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

Joseph, who started working for the Riviera Beach Police Department in July 2018, was placed on administrative leave after the investigation was launched when the 17-year-old victim spoke with officers in September. Officers turned their investigation over to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say Joseph has been fired. A second officer from the department, Verley Moyton, was also fired after he admitted to having a one-time sexual encounter with a member of the Officer Explorer Program. Moyton will not be charged in that case.
