Formula E Race, Ultra Music Fest to Shake Up Miami Streets

New traffic plans will be in place in Miami later this month for both the Formula E Miami ePrix race and Ultra Music Fest.

Although the cars will soon be racing down the streets of Miami, residents will be doing anything but speeding past Biscayne Boulevard. The Formula E race is coming to town March 14th and drivers should be ready for some temporary traffic pattern changes.

"There will be delays. There will be people in the area who are not as familiar as the people that live and work there everyday, so you really do have to pack some patience," Miami Police Lt. Joel Gonzalez said.

The championship route goes down Biscayne Boulevard, under the MacArthur Causeway and around the American Airlines Arena. On both March 13th and 14th, Biscayne Boulevard will close Northbound from Northeast 3rd Street to Northeast 14th Street, and southbound from 14th Street to Northeast 5th Street.

Less than two weeks later, Ultra Music Festival will also take place in the same area. Traffic re-routes begin on Thursday March 26th at 9 p.m. and streets such as Biscayne Boulevard will close until Monday March 30th at 6 a.m.

"It's a balancing act between the thousands of residents and hundreds of thousands of visitors," Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado said.

Ultra organizers and police said they're taking additional measures to ensure crowd control after last year a security guard was trampled when a group tried to push over a fence.

"This year, we are using the same fencing that is being used for Formula E and it's being brought over for Ultra, and it really cannot be pushed over," Gonzalez said. "So we believe we have addressed that issue."

For Ultra, they'll also be adding plywood to the fences. Also, only those 18 and older are allowed to attend.
