Fort Lauderdale Officer Laid to Rest Days After Deadly Car Crash in Coral Springs

A seven year veteran of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department was laid to rest Friday, less than one week after he was killed in a Coral Springs car crash.

30-year-old Christopher Sheehan was remembered at a memorial service held at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. He was one of two people in a Jeep Wrangler that was traveling northbound on State Road 7 early Saturday morning when it was rear-ended by another vehicle.

Sheehan, who was driving, was pronounced dead on the scene while his passenger was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the other car was not injured.

Sheehan, the son of a former Fire Rescue division chief in the city, served as a detective and a SWAT team operator during his time with the police department. He leaves behind his parents, brother and a fiancé who he was scheduled to wed in October.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help his family and fiancé with costs.
