Fort Lauderdale Starting Campaign for Same-Sex Destination Weddings

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors bureau wants to highlight a campaign for gay, lesbian and straight couples to visit Broward County for a destination wedding or a vacation.

They're doing that by creating wedding ads with same-sex and straight couples, despite Florida's ban on gay marriage.

The head of the bureau feels it is just a matter of time before it is legal in Florida.

"We're anticipating the changes. We are a destination for all kinds of couples. We hope the country catches up with Greater Fort Lauderdale as we open our arms the open the rainbow carpet," said Nicki Grossman, president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors bureau.

Grossman said Broward County saw more than $1 billion come in from LGBT travelers in 2013. She boasts the county is also home to the largest number of same-sex couples in the country.

The visitor's bureau was shooting a commercial Thursday for the weddings ads.
