Elizabeth Buntrock, center, helps package food at the Pantry of Broward.
The beloved founder of the Pantry of Broward was the victim of a violent attack as she was showing up to volunteer at the charity early this morning.
Elizabeth "BJ" Buntrock, 75, was jumped around 6 a.m. by a young man outside the charity's office at 610 NW 3rd Ave. in Fort Lauderdale, according to a press release from the Pantry's Director of Development, Bruce Harris.
According to Harris, Buntrock was pushed into the offices where she was attacked by the man, who later fled the scene.
The man, identified as 22-year-old Javerros Wright, was arrested a short time later. He was charged with three counts of sexual battery, as well as burglary and kidnapping.
Employees of the Pantry, which serves meals to low income seniors, were shocked at the attack.
"BJ has given her all helping seniors in this community," said Pantry CEO Penny Loughlan, in the press release. "That this should happen to her of all people - or any elderly person - is totally unacceptable."
