Miami Beach is launching a new free trolley service to serve Alton Road during the road reconstruction project.

The new trolley service will help customers get to the 300 business that are being affected by the construction project, which is expected to be completed in Fall 2015.

"We hope to mitigate the financial loss that some of these businesses have felt since the construction started by getting customers back on Alton Road and West Avenue," Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine said in a statement.

The trolleys, which begin Monday, will operate from Fifth Street to Lincoln Road, along Alton Road and West Avenue, with 21 stops along the way. The service will run approximately every 10 minutes from 8 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Sunday.

The trolley has a capacity of 25 passengers and has an external bike rack and will offer free WiFi. The cost to operate this service is approximately $750,000 a year.

The Alton Road reconstruction project is making improvements to storm water drainage, reconstructed roadway and sidewalks, and new median, street signalizations, lighting and landscaping.
