Frontier Airlines Arrives in Miami with $15 Fares

Frontier Airlines expanded its service to Miami International Airport on Tuesday and is celebrating with a one-day sale that has fares as low as $15 each way.

The new service will take off in late December from Miami International Airport to Denver, New York, Philadelphia and Chicago.

“We welcome the arrival of Frontier Airlines at MIA and are thrilled to offer our customers this fantastic low fare option to leading U.S. destinations,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. González.

The arrival of Frontier into Miami was welcome news for some travelers.

“My brother called me from Florida to tell me that they’re coming, so I’m thrilled,” said passenger Gail Gitin.

Frontier Senior Vice-President Daniel Schurz said Miami’s market is “underserved” and that by adding the service to Miami International, “we’re going to bring more people to this region.”

"This is very beneficial. First of all, the extra stops and the extra time. Miami is one of the furthest points south in the United States,” said traveler Peter Schindler. “So, to be able to get here faster and more convenient makes everything a lot quicker and easier."

It also may be cheaper, even after the promotional rates expire. On average, other carriers charge between $380 and $420 for non-stop trips from Denver to Miami. A non-stop flight on Frontier from Dallas to Miami will average between $100 and $300.

Frontier said it offers cheaper fares and what it calls “Classic Plus” fares which include extra leg room, refundable fares, and one checked bag. Some travelers said that’s nice, but it’s not the main reason they would fly Frontier.

“I don’t care about any of that. I just want to get to where I’m going,” said passenger Andrew Jeon.
