A Coral Gables jewelry store owner took matters into his own hands during an attempted robbery Tuesday night, scrapping with a suspect until officers arrived to arrest him.

The robbery happened at Snow's Jewelry Store on Miracle Mile around 6 p.m., when a man walked into the store with a crowbar, smashed a display case, grabbed some watches and tried to get away.

He didn't get far.

An employee tripped a silent alarm while store owner Eddie Snow pulled out a gun and confronted the man, 45-year-old Joseph Anthony Borras.

"He could have hurt my employee or he could have hurt me, so there really wasn't a choice, we beat the crap out of him," Snow said.

Snow fought with Borras until the police arrived and took him into custody. Borras is now facing armed robbery and grand theft charges, and has a bloody and bruised face thanks to Snow.
