Gas Prices Soar in South Florida, Across America in Wake of Hurricane Irma

Despite higher gas prices in Florida, tolls across the state remain suspended post Irma

In the wake of Hurricane Irma and her destructive wrath through Florida – which followed Hurricane Harvey’s devastating impact on Texas and the Gulf Coast – gas prices have risen dramatically in the last month the the highest levels seen in three years.

The national average price per gallon is $2.62 a gallon, which is nearly 30 cents higher than last month's average.

In Florida, the average price per gallon is even higher at $2.71, hitting a high mark of $2.73 on Thursday. The highest prices in the state reside in Boca Raton ($2.80) and Fort Lauderdale ($2.74).

The lowest price for a gallon in Miami-Dade and Broward is $2.59.For those prices, you’ll have to go to a gas station near Southwest 27th Avenue and Bird Road in Miami-Dade, while Broward drivers will need to head to Northwest 14th Avenue and East Commercial Boulevard.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced Monday that tolls across the state will remain suspended as recovery efforts continue. Scott ordered tolls to suspended days ahead of Hurricane Irma as drivers made the haul out of areas under mandatory evacuations.
