George Zimmerman Not Seriously Hurt in Lake Mary Shooting: Report

George Zimmerman wasn't seriously hurt after being involved in a shooting in Florida on Monday, his lawyer told The Associated Press.

A bullet missed Zimmerman's head, but he was sprayed with glass from his windshield and another debris in the shooting in the Orlando suburb of Lake Mary, his attorney Don West said.

Zimmerman was released from a hospital, West added.

Lake Mary Police Officer Bianca Gillett said during a news conference Monday that a man, Matthew Apperson, called 911 to report the shooting. She said Zimmerman was not the shooter.

Apperson appears to be the same person involved in a road rage incident with Zimmerman last year.

Last September, Apperson said Zimmerman threatened to kill him, asking "Do you know who I am?" during a road confrontation in their vehicles. Apperson decided not to pursue charges, and police officers were unable to move forward without a car tag identified or witnesses.

Gillette said investigators have not determined how or why the latest altercation began.

No charges were immediately filed against either man.

Earlier, a local NBC affiliate reported, citing police, that Zimmerman had suffered a minor gunshot wound. The shooting had involved Zimmerman and another man, police chief Steve Bracknell told Orlando affiliate WESH.

The station said its own helicopter video showed a bullet hole in a vehicle Zimmerman had been in.

Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges in 2013 after he fatally shot Trayvon Martin after a confrontation.

He was later arrested in November 2013 on domestic violence accusations after his girlfriend called police. She later recanted her story, and charges were never filed.
