Girl-Empowering Arts Camp Returns This Summer at Miami-Dade Parks

Young girls who have a love for the arts will have an opportunity to express their creativity this summer at Miami-Dade Parks’ G.E.M. Arts Camp.

G.E.M., which stands for Girls Empowerment and Mentoring, camp is geared toward girls ages 6-15 who are interested in visual and performing arts, journalism, women’s history and Spanish literature. Campers will be mentored by professors and administrators from Barry University, FIU and Miami-Dade College.

“G.E.M.’s inclusive arts program provides opportunities for girls to build on the rich artistic power within themselves, take risks, welcome challenges, and forge lasting friendships,” said Vivian Greer-Digon, G.E.M. program manager.

Miami-Dade Parks said the program, which is in its eighth season, offers a variety of arts classes and workshops.

“While our camps are great fun, expertly structured programming and mentoring provides them with the necessary tools to activate their limitless potential and sense of pride and be successful in life,” said Digon.

The camp runs June 12-Aug. 11, 2017 at two locations. Camp hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The cost is $100 a week, plus a one-time registration fee of $12. For more information, call 305-480-1717.
