Gov. Rick Scott announced Friday that a second so-called "Zika Zone" is being eliminated, weeks after another in South Florida was reduced.
Flanked by state and local officials, Scott said at a press conference in St. Mary Cathedral School that the zone between NW 79th Street and 63rd Street as well as 10th Avenue and Miami Avenue has been lifted, 45 days after the last case of transmission was discovered.
"We've been very aggressive. The city and the county, whether it's code enforcement or spraying for Zika," Scott said.
It's the second time a zone has been lifted on mainland Miami-Dade County, following the original transmission area in the Wynwood section, which was eventually cleared.
The Florida Department of Health confirmed one new travel related case in Miami-Dade County recently, with around 1,200 cases being reported across the state since June.
Nearly two weeks ago, the state eliminated part of the transmission zone from 28th Street to 63rd Street – keeping in place the part from 8th Street to 28th Street.
"This is not passed. We're going to have mosquitos next year, so we're all going to work together," Scott said.
