Granddaughter Assaults Grandma in Robbery: Police

A Port Orange woman wanted to spend the night with her husband in a hotel but didn't have the money. So police say she assaulted, burglarized and stole jewelry from her 84-year-old grandmother.

Authorities say 25-year-old Brigitte Matzke and 26-year-old Alex Caldwell face multiple charges following the Monday night incident at the grandmother's home.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports a neighbor called police after hearing a commotion coming from a nearby apartment.

Police say the couple demanded for $80 from the woman. When her grandmother said she didn't have money, Matzke grabbed the woman, ripped her bra off and twisted her wrists.

The grandmother tried to call 911 but Matzke ripped the phone off the wall and threw it at the elderly woman, police said.

The couple left the apartment, but police arrested them later that night. The grandmother had a red mark under her eye and marks and bruises on her wrists, police said.

Matzke and Caldwell were booked into the Volusia County Jail. Records don't indicate whether they've retained attorneys.
