Heat: Dwyane Wade Named Player of the Week in East

Dwyane Wade was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday

Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday following an exceptional series of games.

This is the 19th time in Wade's career that he has taken home the weekly honors. It comes after a week that saw Miami win four straight and go 4-0 overall. The Heat did that work mostly on the road, and during a barrage of injuries.

During the week, Wade averaged 24 points, seven assists, 4.8 rebounds and two steals. The 12-time All-Star led his team at both ends of the court on a daily basis. Perhaps most impressive for Wade, was the ability to score when it mattered most. Wade eclipsed ten points in three of the fourth quarters played this past week. The strong finishes from Wade helped his team secure much-needed victories.

Wade will be headed to the upcoming NBA All-Star Game after being voted in by the fans. It is not only Wade's 12th game, but also his 12th starting assignment. While Wade likely grabs some votes due to his overall popularity, he still continues to produce at a high level which warrants his star status.

In Sunday's win over the Atlanta Hawks, Wade led Miami with eight assists. This was critical as Goran Dragic struggled not only with foul trouble, but also with his production. Wade took over the job of running Miami's offense, and did it admirably. Dragic is working his way back from an extended absence which will take time, and Wade makes that wait easier to bear for Miami.

Wade's Heat will be back in action on Tuesday night when they take on the Houston Rockets in a nationally televised game.
