The Miami Heat took the Toronto Raptors to overtime before falling 112-104 on Saturday at Air Canada Centre.
Throughout the night, the game remained close with both teams exchanging leads. Miami trailed by seven points at the half, but led by one going into the fourth quarter. The Heat were able to keep up with the Raptors despite playing in the second half of a back-to-back.
Miami was also without Dwyane Wade for this one as the star rested a thigh injury. Wade played in Friday's game, but did not see an improvement in his condition. Rather than press the issue, head coach Erik Spoelstra elected to give Wade the night off. It is unknown at this time if Wade will play in Miami's next game.
Wade Wade out of the lineup, Miami gave a start to Justise Winslow and he played big minutes. The rookie ended up tying for the team-lead with 43 minutes of action in which he posted 11 points and five rebounds. Winslow also provided a helping-hand with a pair of assists and compiled three steals.
The biggest night by far for any Heat player was had by Joe Johnson. This was also the second loss for Miami since the veteran joined the team, and he did all he could to help it win this one as well. Johnson led the Heat with 28 points, four rebounds and five assists in 43 minutes.
Hassan Whiteside's streak of double-doubles was extended once more with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Whiteside now has 12 straight double-doubles and all have come off the bench, where the center has become a mainstay. Whiteside continues to play starter minutes despite his listed status as a reserve.
Miami is off on Sunday before hosting the Denver Nuggets on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
