A packed schedule and grueling practices have yet to stop the Miami Heat’s “Birdman” from doing his part to help those in need. Christina Hernandez has the story on how one fan got a once in a lifetime chance to shop with Chris Andersen for $1,000 in groceries.
A Miami Heat fan took a trip to the store she won't soon forget, leaving an area Winn-Dixie with a cart of free groceries and memories of a shopping spree with Chris "Birdman" Andersen.
"This is the best experience I've ever had," Daisy Moore said. "I will never forget it."
The single mother won $1,000 in free groceries as part of the first Dr. Pepper Mountain Dew Shop with the Player Program. She snagged the prize by proving she is a big Miami Heat fan.
"I work overnight so I always DVR the games," said Moore, adding that it can be hard to make ends meet.
Moore was able to shop for family favoites like yogurt and Cheez-Its with the cash. Andersen even flew out to the parking lot to lend an assist with all the bags.
"Being a single mom it's hard at times, but this will save me a lot," Moore said. "I'm very grateful."
Andersen said the experience meant a lot to him, too.
"Giving back to the community is very special for us," he said.
