Heavy Rain Causes Flooding in Parts of Miami-Dade

A record amount of rainfall was reported in parts of southwest Miami-Dade Saturday with nearly nine inches falling in some areas.

A total of 8.77 inches of rain fell at West Kendall-Tamiami Airport, breaking the old record of 8.36 inches on Oct. 8, 2011, according to the National Weather Service. It was the wettest day at the airport since records began in 1998.

Between 8 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday, 10.11 inches of rainfall was reported in The Hammocks, the NWS said.

The heavy rain left several low-lying areas flooded, with some street closures. Some drivers in Kendall were forced to abandon their vehicles after they became stalled out on the flooded roads.
