Hermine Leaves Florida with Millions of Dollars in Damages

Hurricane Hermine caused at least $30 million to $50 million in damages, destroyed nine homes and dumped 20 inches of rain -- all in Pasco County alone.

Officials in the county north of downtown Tampa held a news conference Wednesday to assess the damage.

They have inspected more than 1,000 homes in west Pasco County in the wake of last week's storm. They declared nine homes destroyed and 297 with major damage. The county doesn't yet have an assessment of damages to businesses.

While the storm didn't cause much wind damage, river flooding and storm surge took a toll.

The local state of emergency has been extended for another seven days.

In Citrus County, 1,881 structures suffered some type of damage. Initial damage assessments are in the neighborhood of $53 million.
