A Central Florida teacher is in trouble with the law after admitting to have sex with one of her students.
Police in Hernando County, just north of Tampa, arrested 35-year-old Valerie Valvo after they initially received information of a relationship between her and a 17-year-old male student. After the student confirmed to detectives that he had sex with Valvo inside her Spring Hill home, police took her into custody.
Valvo later admitted to having sex with the student five or six times, saying it was a consensual relationship – even though Florida law says a 17-year-old cannot consent to sex with an adult. The Central High School teacher and student also admitted to smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol inside the home.
Valvo was charged with three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. There is no word on if she has been suspended from her position.
