Sgt. Tomas Munoz remains in "at home" status and has been suspended of all police duties and authority following his arrest Saturday, Hialeah Police spokesman Carl Zogby said Monday.

Munoz, 41, is charged with one count of cocaine possession of a non-trafficking amount and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, Hialeah Police said.

According to an arrest affidavit released Monday, officers found the drugs and a crack pipe in a Miami motel room Munoz had rented with a woman.

When the officers found the drugs, Munoz told the woman, "Things happen for a reason," the affidavit said.

During his bond court appearance Sunday, Munoz briefly pleaded his case to Judge Maria de Jesus Santovenia.

"With all due respect your honor, I just wanted to say I had nothing in my physical possession as you can see on the A-form," Munoz said.

The judge ordered him held on $6,000 bond, which was later posted.

Munoz, who has been with the Hialeah Police Department since 1998, was currently assigned to administrative desk duties.
