Hialeah School Gets Makeover from Miami Dolphins

Members of the Miami Dolphins traded in helmets and shoulder pads for paint brushes and shovels as they gave a Hialeah school a much-deserved makeover Wednesday.

The beautification project at Mae M. Walters Elementary School focused on painting, landscaping and providing various improvements to the campus.

At least $80,000 dollars went into the project. That covered the cost of more than 200 plants, 100 gallons of paint, a dozen trees and an improved school sign.

"It's a fun thing to be a part of. Being able to give back to my community especially with all my teammates," said Oliver Vernon, defensive end for the Fins.

Principal Milko Brito says they're happy to have the help, adding that without the contribution of the Dolphins organization, these improvements might not have been possible or affordable.

The best part will be welcoming the students back in the fall.

"It's like a Christmas present," Brito says. "When they come back they're going to see a whole different school."
