Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at White House

President Barack Obama marked the close of Hispanic Heritage month with a reception at the White House Wednesday.

The celebration of histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic Americans is observed from September 15th until October 15th.

The president spoke about the gains the Hispanic community has made in education, income and health insurance during his time in office.

"Last year alone, Latinos experienced the fastest income growth and the biggest drop in poverty of any group here in the United States, and we've opened up a new chapter with the people of Cuba, which could not have been possible without the help of the extraordinary Cuban-American community,” said Mr. Obama.

And while President Obama admitted that there's more to be done, including immigration reform, he said that Americans can make progress by working together.
