Hollywood High School Teacher Accused of Sex With Student

Dirk Hilyard, an English teacher who was hired by Broward County Schools in 1987, is accused of carrying on a relationship with one of his female students

A Hollywood Hills High School teacher has been suspended amid allegations he had a sexual relationship with a student.

Dirk Hilyard, an English teacher who was hired by Broward County Schools in 1987, is accused of carrying on a relationship with one of his female students during the 2015-2016 school year, according to an administrative complaint.

The complaint alleges that Hilyard and the teen engaged in sexual acts at least five times at a townhouse after school. The two also exchanged messages of a "graphic sexual nature" on social media, including Twitter and Facebook, the complaint said.

In January 2016, the two went to a soccer tournament in Naples, Florida, where they shared a room at the Red Roof Inn, the complaint said. They were seen kissing and holding hands while out in public during the trip, the complaint said.

In February 2016, Hilyard and the girl were seen passing notes in class, which Hilyard threw away but were retrieved by witnesses.

"I want you to be my sex slave, call me sir or daddy," said the first note, which was in Hilyard's handwriting, according to the complaint.

"Whatever you want daddy," read the second note, which was in the girl's handwriting, the complaint said.

The complaint said Hilyard and the girl were seen alone in his classroom with the lights off on several occasions. Hilyard was also seen picking her up in his car after school, the complaint said.

According to the complaint, Hilyard was the subject of a 1995 complaint from a female student who claimed he "grabbed and /or touched her in a way she perceived as being offensive." Hilyard was issued a directive to "use better judgment and to cease and desist with any type of story or metaphor that has sexual connotations" after the complaint, the report said.

Hilyard told the Sun Sentinel he never had an inappropriate relationship with a student. "The allegations are false, and my lawyer and I are fighting those,” he told the paper.

The complaint doesn't say if Hilyard faces any criminal charges, but he has been suspended without pay and could be fired as early as next month.
