A man was shot and killed after a confrontation with Hollywood Police following an hours-long standoff that included the suspect setting a home on fire Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to the home at North 62nd Avenue between Taft Street and Sheridan Street around 4 a.m. after a person reportedly was making threats inside. Police said the man called a local TV station around 2 a.m. and said "something big" was going to happen in his neighborhood.

Once officers arrived, shots were heard coming from inside the home.

Police set up a perimeter in the area and evacuated surrounding homes shortly afterward. For several hours, SWAT officers and officials worked in an attempt to get the man to exit the home and give up.

"At some point, officers observed the individual igniting a paper bag on fire inside the residence, intentionally lighting the house on fire. That subject then exited the home a firearm and confronted officers," Hollywood Police spokeswoman Miranda Grossman said.

Police were forced to shoot back, killing the man, according to Grossman.

Officials have not released any additional information about the threats made or the identity of the man.
