A homeless man is in jail after deputies say he fatally stabbed another man in a homeless camp in the mangroves near Marathon.

Monroe County Sheriff's deputies say the men were both staying at the homeless camp when the fight broke out Wednesday night. A woman also staying at the camp witnessed the incident.

Deputies say the men were fighting over a missing bag. The woman told deputies 59-year-old Timothy Howard stabbed the 53-year-old victim with a filet knife. She says she heard the victim scream and saw him fall into the water at the shoreline.

According to the witness, the victim got on his bicycle and drove away. Deputies found him dead nearby, lying across his bicycle.

Howard was arrested and faces murder charges.
